Learn how to test for Hydrogen gas. Magnesium is added to Sulphuric Acid, the resultant fizzing shows that a gas is being given off.
To test for Hydrogen gas the 'Squeaky Pop' test is used. A splint is lit and placed near to the gas which has been collected and a 'Squeaky Pop' is heard. This indicates that Hydrogen gas is present.
